Zuora Employee Mykah Montgomery Promoting "Leaders Are Readers"

“Leaders are Readers,” was the exuberant chant led by Mykah Montgomery (Zuora’s Head of Zuora Customer Advisory Group, NA Region) on April 3, 2017 in Northern Light School in Oakland as The Honorable Mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, came together with City of Oakland Council Member Noel Gallo and more than 50 community leaders, public officials, business executives, and Oakland Youths to officially celebrate Mykah Montgomery Day.

Montgomery was awarded this distinction for her diligent work as a children’s advocate, specifically around the topics of literacy and anti-bullying. Read more about Montgomery’s work here.

In honor of this special event, Mayor Schaaf spoke a few words about why April 3 was named Mykah Montgomery Day:

“Whereas Mykah Montgomery is a devoted child literacy advocate and esteemed children’s book author who inspires youth of all nationalities to embrace their differences, love themselves and others, enjoy reading, and ensure entrepreneurship.

And whereas Mykah Montgomery instills a code of conduct that promotes diversity, equality, and acceptance in an effort to eradicate bullying and mean behavior in our communities.”

Montgomery herself addressed the children directly:

“Our mayor, our city, and our community wanted to thank or acknowledge me for loving you, for saying how important you are—how important it is for you to be leaders and read, to enjoy reading.”
